Justice for Eardley Hall

Many people will be aware that Eardley Hall Kennels have announced closure after 25 years of operation because of the complaint of one man and his wife about the noise caused on occasions by the barking of the dogs.

The Newcastle Borough Council have threatened the owner of the kennels with a Noise Abatement Order which can lead to a £20,000 fine and £500 per day if the noise continues.

The complainant lives 450m away from the kennels which were already there when he came to live in his house. Other properties much nearer to the kennels have no problems.

Thousands of people will be affected by this closure and we are all fighting it. Solicitors have been appointed to take up the case. Donations are pouring in to provide funds to pay the legal costs.

Many people have written to the Sentinel newspaper but not all have had their letters published, partly because of lack of space and possibly because the Council have complained to the Sentinel about the coverage of the subject and the readers letters which have been published. I don't think that there have been any letters published since then.

So, this is your chance to have your say. Send in your comments. This is my first blog so I don't know exactly how the system works.

If this blog gets to be read by the council, can you take a look at this from the animals’ point of view. Why should they lose the safety and friendly place to go while their family take a holiday just because one person doesn't like where they live? One person can move; 2000 dogs can't find a place like Eardley Hall.

Mary has a point, but I don't think the council will read this blog, they won't even accept emails direct to the people concerned. Mine keep getting returned marked "unable to deliver". The only reply I have had is the standard one from Alan Hudson regarding noise complaints. Noting complaints to the council, how about the fury over the lap dancing pub to be opened in Newcastle. Many complaints but it's still opening, one complaint about a kennels and they threaten that with closure. Do the council have their own priority listings?

Having written to the council about my objections to the probable closure of the kennels, and asking certain questions of them, I have received the customary standard reply, without any answers. I would like to know why they have instructed the Sentinel not to publish any more letters or articles on this subject. Do they only listen to one complainant and not to the neighbours who live closer to the kennels, who have no complaints?
I trust the staff at Eardley Hall Kennels to care for my dogs in my absence and have never been disappointed. Perhaps Mr Hart should move house if he is unhappy with the kennels, after all, the kennels were in existence before he arrived. I would also like to know how he copes with the traffic noise on the A500.
